Pastors Oliver and Sonovia Jones
Our History
Mountain Top SE Ministries was organized in July of 1989, in the home of Oliver and Sonovia Jones, where they began with eight members.
The Church remained in the Jones’s home for three months until the Lord blessed them to lease on suite of a nine suite, 9,000 sq. ft. shopping center.
The Church occupied the one suite for a few years and then expanded by purchasing the entire shopping center, allowing for the addition of the Learning Center which provides Christ-centered education for early learners and school-aged students. The Christian Book Store soon followed in 1994, in 1996 the ministry purchased over 40,000 sq. ft of land adjacent to the shopping center. The Thrift Store opened in 2002 to provide inexpensive, yet high quality shopping for many of our less fortunate neighbors. In 2004, the Church purchased a formal baptistry allowing the ministry baptize candidates in our ministry facility. 18 years and still counting...
Some may look at 18 years as a long time. But look a recent high school graduate, and then 18 isn’t such a big number anymore...is it?
Like many of our new graduates, Mountain Top SE Ministries is just getting in the groove of things. These past years, the ministry has been blessed...people have been saved...folks have been delivered...marriages have been restored...families have been reunited... lives have been changed. It is difficult to explain the impact that this ministry has had...I can only say God has always been and will be glorified at Mountain Top SE Ministries; and HERE His favor is evident, His power is manifest, His Spirit dwells.
As Mountain Top works the plan the God has given our Pastors, we have encountered many challenges and many tests...but we have overcome every one. From the attacks on our pastors’ bodies...to the attacks on our school...to the attacks on our land...we have triumphed through them all. Through the leadership of Pastors Oliver and Sonovia Jones, have learned that pressing leads to blessing...Philippians 4: 12 - 16 (NLT) says: “
“12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it,but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. 15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. 16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.”
As Mountain Top SE Ministries continues to grow, we are thankful for the triumphs of yesterday, but are excited about the new things that God is doing right here, right now. As Phase One work begins this year, on the renovation of the West Wing of our current campus…we are excited about the amphitheater seating, audiovisual control room and renovated dining area...creating a mini-conference facility. We also look forward to Phase Two, which includes the construction of a new main sanctuary and Christian family life center.
